The Billericay Conservative’s have approved their version of the Corporate Plan which sets out their vision for the Basildon Borough for the coming years. However, Labour have branded the plan half-hearted and lacking substance.
Says Labour’s Leader, Cllr Gavin Callaghan, “It took five months to produce a Corporate Plan that was a blank sheet of paper. There is no policy programme, no action plan and no hope for a beleaguered Conservative Group who are defying the whip and voting against their out of touch Leader.
“Officers are routinely complaining to the hierarchy that they are lacking direction from the Administration and they are lacking in motivation. It’s not hard to see why.
“Basildon is a council that is stagnating. Regeneration projects are stalling, the local plan has become a regional embarrassment and Billericay plant pots were prioritised over community safety in Pitsea.
“The Conservatives are the most expensive administration in the history of Basildon Council and the taxpayer will rightly expect to have seen delivery. It is now clearer than ever that the Conservatives do not have the ideas, vision or plan to take Basildon to the next stage and it will take a change of administration to get the Council back on the right path and that is what the opposition is working to achieve.”
